Back in the good ol' days.....
View of the Chapel Property from Bear Lake Road
In the mid 1960's, there was no Bear Lake Bible Chapel... The work of the chapel was only a "vision" in the minds and hearts of several men of God who sought to be true to His Word.
Svend Christenson, Dr. Theodore "Ted" Dippy, Ed Scott, Keith Dilley, and others had a burden for lost souls, and wanted to see another local gathering of Believers, who could carry on that work.
In the late 1960's, David Van Der Noot was commended to the ministry of planting an assembly in the Forest City area, north of Orlando. He and his wife, along with Harlan and Patricia Brown began having Sunday School meetings in a community building, and met with other believers in their homes to share the Breaking of Bread (Lord's Supper). They also invited families to come to their homes for Bible studies and social activities.
In 1970, preparations were made to purchase and use land owned by Theodore "Ted" Dippy, on the eastern edge of Apopka. The land was cleared, and the first building was erected. In the Summer of that year, while construction was still going on, the Van Der Noots had the first of children's meetings there - a neighborhood Vacation Bible School program. The outreach was just beginning!
After David had stepped down from the leadership of the assembly, Bear Lake Bible Chapel was blessed with another full time worker, Phil Guikema along with his wife Edna. They had previously come to the Chapel as part of a Summer outreach team from Emmaus Bible School. Phil and Edna had a burden for the work at Bear Lake Bible Chapel, and have continued in full time ministry ever since.
Bear Lake Bible Chapel does not have a single pastor but is shepherded by a plurality of elders who meet together to discuss the spiritual and growth needs of the assembly. Various speakers minister God's Word and as our fellowship continues to grow we joyously desire to see where God directs us.
